At this Padma appeared in the airabove Chand's head and said: "Saodagar, do you not realise thatthis is not by chance or in the course of nature. Even now yieldand worship me whilst there is yet time!" But he still refused eventhough he was drowning. Padma, however, did not mean to kill him.So, after drifting in the water for some days, he was at lengthallowed to reach the shore but not before he had been made thesubject of many illusions by Padma, in which he thought himself tobe continually in sight of land only to find nothing but water asfar as the eye could reach.
