Published by Academic Foundation, this document has been prepared by the State Plans Division of the Planning Commission (Government of India) in collaboration with the Human Development Resource Centre (HDRC), United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP) New Delhi. It is a compilation of successful Government initiatives from across the country. This volume contains cases under three sections: Land, Water and Livelihood; Human Development and Social Services; and, Public Interface with Government. An attempt has been made to highlight the operating mechanisms and the key strengths that have contributed towards their success. The objective of this document is to facilitate interstate comparisons and encourage the replication of these initiatives in other parts of the country. Well researched, well-designed and studded with pictures, this unique publication highlights the role of community participation, and 'self-help groups'.
