The contribution of women to the national economy is generally undervalued in the underdeveloped and developing countries across the world. It is due to their low socio-economic status and meagre opportunities of livelihood avenues. This book attempts to examine the various factors contributing to the socio-economic status and livelihood security of women in two similar situations of India and Sri Lanka. It studies entrepreneurial behaviour of women and their involvement in various activities for women empowerment. Also, it analyses the livelihood security of women and the problems faced by them in their socio-economic upliftment. H.W. Shyamalie is an Economist in Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka. She did her M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and Ph.D from CSKHPKV, Palampur. She has to her credit eight research papers published in the journals of repute. Also she has contributed to more than 10 research projects. A. S. Saini is presently a Professor in Agricultural Economics at Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University. His areas of specialization include dairy economics and agricultural marketing. He has to his credit over 110 research papers published in national and international journals of repute. He has executed 11 research projects as the Principal Investigator.
