The book 'operating system concepts' Is based on My experience on the development of a real time OS for use in the automation of air defence systems, My training on vax/VMs OS at Dec, USA and My study of the subject from various books by eminent authors. The book targets under graduate engineering students; sincere effort has been made to explain the OS concepts like process synchronization, inter-process communication, Deadlock handling and various memory management techniques in a very simple language. Prof. Br. S. Gill, be (electrical) gold Medallist from Punjab University and me (computer Science & automation) from school of automation, I ISC Bangalore, has more than thirty-two years of experience in the field of defence R&D and academics. He has an excellent track record of having worked at TIFR, Mumbai and lrde, Bangalore in the development of real time air defence systems which are currently operational in the defence services. Presently, he is working as head of the Department, computer Science & engineering at a prestigious engineering college in Noida. His research interests include database normalization, query optimization, communication protocols and issues related to real time distributed systems.
