This much awaited second edition of the book is even richer in material and also incorporates all the latest amendments and up-to-date case-law. The book is a storehouse of information (over 4000 cases coordinated in about 1200 pages) for Judges, Lawyers and law students. On the other hand, the use of simple language and illustrations (wherever required) make this scholarly work on Modern Hindu Law easy to assimilate even by a layman. The first edition of this work was very well received and applauded by readers and critics. A scholarly work on modern Hindu law by the learned author, it is enriched by the study of historical and sociological aspects of the subject, tracing the evolution in the application of the law. The codified branches of Hindu law are studied here in the shape of running commentaries. The law is stated simply and concisely while its ramifications and salient points are supported by citing leading cases, statutes and rules. Now, the updated edition of this much awaited work comes with a comprehensive coverage of almost all the amendments and acts pertaining to Hindu Law. The author provides in-depth analyses of the major acts pertaining to Hindu Law. Acts, such as Hindu Marriage Act, 1955; Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956; and, Hindu Minority and Guardianship Act, 1956 and Hindu Succession Act, 1956 are discussed in great detail. The Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 1988 is also analysed. Many important Acts and legislations dealing with Hindu Law are given in the book as appendices. The recently enforced Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 is also included in the book as an appendix. Since the publication of the first edition, there have been many important statutory developments in the law, the most recent and important one being the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005. All these have been carefully noted, analyzed and commented upon by the learned author. Because of its basic fund of information and its exploration of hundreds of old and recent court decisions of the High Courts and the Supreme Court, this book is an invaluable reference work. Case Law upto April 2007 has been reviewed and included in the book. The table of cases, the thorough subject index, the synopsis under each chapter heading, and the Appendices containing 12 allied statutes important to the study of the subject, all lend solidity to the work.
