The Millennium Celebration of Ferdowsi was held in 1934, bringing together in Tehran an extraordinary gathering of distinguished scholars and intellectuals from fourteen countries, alongside many of Iran's leading writers and men of letters, to form the Ferdowsi Congress. During a series of morning and afternoon sessions, participants delivered lectures in various languages and recited poems, all devoted to Ferdowsi and his monumental Shahnameh.

The Iranian Ministry of Education subsequently resolved to publish a selection of these lectures and poems in a single volume. The present book, The Ferdowsi Millennium, published nearly a decade after the congress, is the result of that effort. In addition to the selected speeches and poems presented at the congress, the volume also includes several substantial scholarly essays on Ferdowsi that, although not delivered during the proceedings, were considered important contributions to the study of the poet and his enduring legacy.
